Art Is That Thrilling Spark

Spandex Pony challenged me to choose 5 pieces of art I would like to own and asked where I would put them in my home. Since I currently dwell in a dorm room I don't really have a place for anything at all...but I would love to own these five pieces of art:
This Caitlin Quiet watercolor (which I'm fairly certain isn't available anymore...).
Any one of Rodney Smith's whimsical photographs.
A glass installation by Dale Chihuly.
A Black Apple print like this one. All of her pieces evoke fairy tales and childhood nostalgia for me.
This photograph by Jerry Uelsmann--it is sort of my dream home.

I love all of these. They're all whimsical with a kind of darker aesthetic (other than the Dale Chihuly, of course). The last photograph is my favorite.

Yep, the photos are the one I am drawn to. I'm usually big on photo art, with either either gorgeous landscapes or hints of edge and surrealism. Anything that can provoke a mood in me, like that last picture certainly does.

Great food for thought :)

Wonderful pics! I've always loved that Uelsmann too! Thanks for mentioning Rodney Smith-- which is why I love this tag; you learn about new artists and the people who love them! PS There will be a super-big Dale Chihuly exhibition where I'm getting married; it'll be installed the day before (just chance)!

Chihuly is a genius. His work is absolutely stunning.

I love the idea of a tree house being literally 1/2 tree, as opposed to the typical house plopped into a tree. I imagine the branches growing throughout the house, so going from one room to another is an adventure.

That last piece is just breath-taking! I think these (favorite art always does) tell a lot about you. Even to stranger like me.

I'm all for putting art in a dorm room :) I have a framed black apple print on my wall (the one of a girl knitting a scarf she is wearing). I adore her childlike aesthetic :)
